Guitarist Todd Grubbs New CD Featuring Dream Theater, Megadeth, Iced Earth, Zappa Members Now Available
2/14/08 - Brandon, Florida - Last month the music press was buzzing with what was being described as a 'super session' taking place during the recording of virtuosic Florida guitarist Todd Grubbs fourth solo album titled Time, Space and the Electric. For these sessions, Grubbs, who has been prominently featured in national and international publications such as Guitar World, 20th Century Guitar and Guitar (Japan), enlisted an array of well-known musical artists to record on his new CD.
"Time, Space and the Electric sounds incredible! It's a rare work of sonic art." - Robert Silverstein - 20th Century Guitar
Featuring!!!!
Derek Sherinian from prog-rock giants Dream Theater and Planet X appears on three tracks. "He is truly a world class musician and a total pro," compliments Grubbs. "He has a fantastic sense of melody and the technical ability to play anything. Derek is also an extremely cool guy who's very easy to work with and completely down to earth."
Also legendary Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention keyboardist Don Preston has lent a hand. Preston, who is best known for his work with Zappa, Carla Bley, The Residents, Grande Mothers, and John Carter, as well as a his own solo work, has recorded possibly one of his best Moog solos ever! "Don Preston's contribution is amazing!," Grubbs exclaims. "He is playing better than ever as well as being a legend â?? I feel like I have a Beatle on my disc!"
Also featured on the new Todd Grubbs CD is Chris Poland of rock legends Megadeth and OHM. "Getting Chris to do a guitar solo was a big deal for me as he is one of my absolute favorite current players", says Grubbs.
Other musicians that appear: "John Wesley (Porcupine Tree) and Ralph Santolla (Obituary) are good friends of mine as well as being incredible players," says Todd, "and they both made contributions to this project."; Mark Prator of Iced Earth/John Wesley and Sean Malone of Gordian Knot also contribute drums and bass respectively to several tracks. "Sean is one of the best bass players around with an innate musical sense and chops for days", raves Grubbs. "Mark plays some great drums on a number of tracks and is also mixing the CD. Mark is a musical giant!"; Also, Patrick Bettison of Acoustic Alchemy, who Grubbs describes as a brilliant musician with a great sound and feel, plays bass on a few songs.
Last but not least, Jeff Henry (Drums) and Alan Tatum (Bass), current Todd Grubbs Group members both made large contributions to the new CD and will be the backbone of the live shows in 2008.
Here's what the press has been saying about Todd Grubb's Time, Space and the Electric:
"With a clear soaring tone, Grubbs has the chops to keep the shred heads satisfied but it's certainly not his raison d'etre. More interested in melody and feel than speed, Grubbs knows when to hold back as much as when to fire away." - Guitar World
"Todd knows that chops without good compositions, original arrangements and a good sense of humor lead nowhere, as he has all the goods; he can go anywhere he wants. Todd boasts a big fat juicy tone, chops to kill for and a predilection for a certain hyperactive musical schizophrenia with compositions shifting stylistically on a moments notice." - Tampa Tribune
Todd Grubbs studied at Berklee College of Music and has been voted 'Most Outstanding Guitarist' at the Tampa Bay Music Awards, as well as winning the 'Most Outstanding Video' two consecutive years in a row. Along with Frank Zappa, Grubbs influences, which can be heard throughout Time, Space and the Electric, range from Steve Vai, John Coltrane, The Beatles, Kate Bush, Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, Ulli Jon Roth and Adrian Belew. "The songs are very thematic", Todd describes his new work, "with equal emphasis on composition and chops, stylistically ranging from heavy to ethereal."

King Crimson and Primus Alumni Appear On New Oxygene8 CD
Usa/México/Chile - 12/29/O7 - The buzz about Oxygene8's new CD Freak Of Chance can be heard loud and clear throughout the international music community. An innovative dynamic trio of musicians, Oxygene8 features Linda Cushma with her atypical approach to Chapman Stick and vocals, explosive drummer, Kiko King and stunning guitarist, Claudio Cordero. The band's latest offering Freak Of Chance has been garnering rave reviews from music press and fans worldwide. "Somewhere in the process of recording and touring after the release of Freak, Oxygene8 became a real band," muses Linda Cushma . In concert, they perform songs from the new album as well as several selected compositions from their critically acclaimed debut album, Poetica.
Along with the core trio that makes up Oxygene8, Freak Of Chance also features guest performances by several renowned musicians such as bass legend Tony Levin from King Crimson, Peter Gabriel and the Tony Levin Band. "When Steve Parrish and I began to record the song 'Close Your Eyes' I had this gut feeling that it was Tony Levin that needed to be on that track," Linda explains. "I just listened to my intuition and asked Tony if he had the time to do it and he graciously responded." Tim Alexander, drummer for Primus and Attention Deficit, also appears on Freak Of Chance. "I played bass and Tim played drums in a band called Major Lingo from Jerome, Arizona," relates Linda. "We all relocated as a band from Arizona to the Bay Area in California, where Tim's drumming immediately caught the attention of incredible bassist, Les Claypool from Primus. Tim and I continued to communicate and collaborate all through his years with Primus - he is like family to me." Guillermo Cides, cel!
ebrated Argentinean Stick player and guitarist Federico Miranda from Costa Rican bands Gandhi and the Baula Project, also join Oxygene8 on the new album and have performed with O8 in live concerts.
The Freak of Chance CD artwork includes an illustration by controversial mentalist and humanitarian, Uri Geller. A former student of the late Salvador Dali, Uri's drawings, paintings and artwork have been exhibited in major galleries and museums all over the world.
Oxygene8 is honored to be playing for international audiences and friends. In 2007, they performed at Theater Montansier organized by ProgLaVie Association, Prog'Sud Festival and Festival Crescendo in France, European house/techno/indie Club BeCool in Barcelona, alternative music venue Siroco in Madrid, Spain and also at StickCHILE 2007 in Santiago and ProgValpo Fest in Valparaiso, Chile. In 2008, projected tour dates will include concerts in Japan, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Europe and South America. Concert dates will be posted on the band's offical website.
Oxygene8 bassist and vocalist Linda Cushma, is quirky and artistic, an exquisite freak of music from the heart. Her innovative approach to playing the Chapman Stick is captivating to watch and hear. "The Chapman Stick always gets a lot of attention," Linda relates. "The Stick is a very provocative instrument both in its sound and imagery; I have a very fine dance partner and musical friend in this instrument. It is a fond wish that my experimental approach and playing style speak well of this beautifully crafted instrument."
Oxygene8's guitarist, Claudio Cordero, is also the guitarist of celebrated bands, Cast of Mexico and Matraz of Chile. Kiko King is the former drummer of Cast and also plays in Mexicali prog/fusion band, Ezoo. Kiko's drumming reminds one of a raw Tim Alexander. Claudio is cutting edge loose with his own solo album, Enlace, and is a guitarist often compared to Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
With the current success of the band's new CD release and tour plans for 2008, Oxygene8 is floating on a wave of creative air - breathe deep!!!

Eclectic Ensemble Re-records Epic Children of Saturn Live
12/29/07 - Detroit, MI - Out of the depths of the Michigan music scene arises one of the most innovative prog-rock group's to emerge on these Eastern shores in quite some time. Tin Scribble, who's debut CD release from 2005 Children of Saturn garnered critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, is preparing to re-record the epic in its entirety live. An ambitous project that will come to fruition on Jan 12, 2008 in Detroit.
Led by guitarist/vocalist Michael Moore, Tin Scribble take musical paths not travelled by many, but well worth the journey. With music reminscent of prog legends like Hawkwind, Gong, King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Genrator, Tin Scribble is a force on the progressive rock front to be dealt with. Along with the live re-recording of the band's debut CD, Tin Scribble are fervently working on their follow-up studio album, tentatively titled The Most Unaccountable Of Machines. The band hope to have the album completed for release in late 2008.
"I'm very excited about the new album," says Michael Moore. "Children Of Saturn Live will show how the new line-up has evolved the material beyond my expectations."
Tin Scribble arose from the ashes of Michigan art-rock troupe House of Usher, who released a well-received CD in the late 1990s called Body Of Mind. Band members Michael Moore and bassist Mark Jardine decided to form a new group to take their musical vision a step further, thus the birth of Tin Scribble and the release of a successful slice of eclectic prog Children Of Saturn. Here's what some of the music press have said about Tin Scribble:
" 'Dark, tuneful, politically-conscious art rock' is how another reviewer (Joe Lisboa) described this debut album by the American band Tin Scribble, which is a very apt description to my opinion which I can't top, so I just borrowed that from him. Children Of Saturn does indeed try to spread some conscious thought around the world about the 'insanity and ignorance around us' and it becomes pretty clear right at the start of the album that they are not very fond of the Bush administration (who is?). Some songs are a clear plea for independent and critical thinking and some others uncover the band's grievance about people's attitude towards each other and politics in the world. Michael Allen Moore who is the main writer of the band clearly has an urge for some world-improvement." - DPRP
"I was itching to listen to this album as, in a sense, as a Capricorn I am a 'child of Saturn' and secondly because I found the cover photograph intriguing (for 'intriguing' read 'a little scary'). Michael Allen More (guitar, vocals, keyboards) wrote all but one of the tracks and was in the band House Of Usher with Tin Scribble bass player Mark Jardine. Also in the band is Bryan Atterberry (guitar, Celtic harp, synth) and Clinton Sabon (drums) with guest musician Colleen Cameron (piano, flute, voice, backing vocals). To get the best out of this album, listen to it on a decent hi fi or headphones. I say this because I also played it on my laptop, which is not that good for sound anyway, but the difference was huge. Children Of Saturn is progressive but a more appropriate term would be art rock - there may be elements of, say, Genesis and King Crimson, but with greater subtlety in the progressive sense." - Hairless Heart Herald
"...probably the most essential observation: most of the music has a fairytale feel to it and is amazingly imaginative. Conclusion, Tin Scribble 's success is due not only to their technical prowess, but also (and in large part) to their good taste to know when delicacy is more important than energy and vice versa. Although different, their Children of Saturn is every bit as good as Body of Mind by House Of Usher."
Along with Michael Moore and Bryan Atterberry who plays guitar, synthesizer and Celtic harp, Tin Scribble's new line-up includes George Bous on drums and Arabic percussion and William MacLoud on bass and double bass. In support of Tin Scribble's new CD releases, plans to tour in 2008 are currently in the works.

Turning Progressive Rock On Its Ear - The Debut Album From Days Between Stations
|

|
Debut CD Release By US Prog-Rock Group Days Between Stations Receives Rave Reviews
11/3/07 - Los Angeles - Progressive Rock is alive and well and residing in Los Angeles with the eponymous debut CD release by Days Between Stations. Founded in 2003 by guitarist Sepand Samzadeh and keyboardist Oscar Fuentes, the Californians named themselves after the novel by Steve Erickson and have devoted themselves to, as they say, 'Art Rock' and 'Post Prog' - music that reflects their varied influences, as well as a shared disregard for stylistic boundaries. The duo's new CD, released in October on Bright Orange Records, was engineered by Evren Goknar of the Capitol Mastering team who is best known for his work with Queensryche, Heart, Sammy Hagar and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Although some music critics have been quick to tout the band as the "new Pink Floyd", guitarist Sepand is adamant that the band's music stands on its own and Pink Floyd was barely in their mind-set when the album was conceived. "Pink Floyd broke so many boundaries and introduced so many ideas, that it is near impossible not to be influenced by them... the same would go for The Beatles. The influences are certainly there, but the music is Oscar and I in our purity. The range of emotions you hear are borne only from our thoughts and experiences." "It's obviously very flattering to be compared to Pink Floyd", adds Fuentes, "but it's curious to me that that's all some people are hearing. We've been influenced by a lot of artists - from Marillion to Nirvana to Porcupine Tree to John Coltrane to Gorecki - and the music reflects that, obviously at times, but we don't try to be anyone other than Days Between Stations."
As mentioned, both Samzadeh and Fuentes have numerous influences that emerge throughout the CD, such as: Marillion, Genesis, Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Brian Eno, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Debussy, King Crimson, Bartok and countless others.
Here's what the critics have been saying about Days Between Stations:
"This is an instrumental album with the taste of classic progressive rock/avant-garde era. I can sense the band members were highly influenced by Pink Floyd, King Crimson and some parts even made me think of Alan Parsons. I really like this album and can easily picture these guys making a movie soundtrack." Hande Burdg, Prog Files
"The band's music is exciting and never predictable... it stretches one's imagination heavily. I would recommend this CD and the band to any person who finds enjoyment listening to very intricate instrumentals packed with emotion and looking for an extreme sensory ride through the sounds created by the band." Ulli Heiser, Rocktimes
"As soon as I finished with the first listen of the CD the first thought that came into my mind was what a wonderful combination of Peter Gabriel's Eastern Asian and African influence, along with Pink Floyd and King Crimson ... the music 'is a dreamscape where imagination and reality collide and merge.' This seems to be a fitting description of the first impression of the music, especially the term 'dreamscape'. However, after listening to the CD several times I was blown away with the extreme amount of emotion that the instrumentals depict. The CD brings the listener into a dark world of pain and suffering of the human spirit, but not so dark as to be overbearing or depressing. The sound is extremely intricate and wonderfully performed." Progressive Music Rules
Days Between Stations has delivered an innovative and uncompromising debut CD. And while much of the material on the album is dark (and deals, albeit instrumentally, with dark themes) and quite long - "Requiem For The Living", which opens the album, is over 13-minutes long, while the epic closer "Laudanum" clocks in at over 22 minutes - the band does exhibit a 'light' side.
"The theme of the album is, for me personally", ponders Fuentes , "about coping with illness, death and loss, and trying to find the meaning in the aftermath of this loss. I think, melancholy though the album may be, we do ultimately offer a light at the end of the tunnel." "It's about the poetry of the mind and the human spirit", concludes Samzadeh.
Although, not an option at first, due to the overwhelming response from fans, Days Between Stations are planning to perform live in 2008. They are already at work on a follow-up album, and there are also plans to release an EP featuring non-album tracks and demos. The duo also hope to branch out into film scoring.
The debut CD by Days Between Stations can be obtained through CD Baby, iTunes and the band's official websites: www.daysbetweenstations.com and www.myspace.com/daysbetweenstationsband

Music Legends Godley and Gouldman Release New Song For Download

GG06 Featuring Legendary 10cc Members Record New Track – Barry's Shoes
10/24/07 - London – 10cc/Godley &Creme legends Kevin Godley and Graham Gouldman, under the guise of GG06, have recorded and released their sixth new track “Barry's Shoes” now available for download from the duo's official website www.gg06.co.uk. In 2006, for the first time in over three decades original 10cc members Godley and Gouldman reunited to record new music. Best known for such classic 10cc hits as "Rubber Bullets", "I'm Not In Love" and "Things We Do For Love", as well as Godley and Creme's mega-hit "Cry", last year Godley and Gouldman recorded five new download-only songs which have garnered rave reviews from fans and critics alike worldwide!
Kevin Godley, former half of the pioneering duo Godley and Creme, who has also directed and produced some of the most successful music videos in rock and roll for such artists as Duran Duran, U2, Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock, Rod Stewart, Keane, Paul McCartney and The Police to name just a few, graces all six tracks with his tremendous voice - arguably one of the great vocalists in music today. "I always figured Kevin had the best voice in the band", complements Gouldman, "ironic that he never sang lead on a 10cc single… Even I managed that. Now justice has been done. Kevin's voice and razor sharp lyrics take us places we haven't visited before… Always a good place to start!"
Graham Gouldman, a prolific songwriter since 1965 before joining 10cc penned such classic songs as "For Your Love", "Heart Full Of Soul" and "Evil Hearted You" for The Yardbirds, as well as "Look Through Any Window" and "Bus Stop" for The Hollies and "No Milk Today", "Listen People" and "East West" for Herman's Hermits. He has also worked with the likes of Andrew Gold and The Ramones."It was exhilarating to hear a haunting Graham Gouldman chord sequence", says Godley about their recent collaboration, "wrap some words around it and feel something actually come to life, in real time, again. These first five tracks are pretty lean by our previous standards. They're more heartfelt, focused, less layered and lyrically they're tougher." This past summer Graham Gouldman toured Europe with his version of 10cc. To the surprise of concert attendees, Kevin Godley made a guest appearance at two UK gigs in which he sang on a couple songs.
The much anticipated new song “Barry's Shoes” is sure to please fans of GG06 with its melodic twists and turns and Godley's engrossing lyrics. And just who is Barry anyway? "Manchester 1963, Like every kid in my street I'm trapped in the synagogue slowly turning into my Father," Kevin explains, "waiting for a sign that says there's more to life than the family business. Enter Barry wearing the Devil's shoes... "
Here's what's being said about the new GG06 songs:
“The first thing that has to be remarked upon is Kevin Godley 's voice. Saying that it's in good shape after 40 years in the music industry is an understatement. I think he's one of the best singers that the music world has seen, and this set of songs really show it off!” - Random Brainwaves
“Now with Gouldman being a legendary songwriter in the sixties, this was always likely to be a melodic treat. And it is. Despite the years, he and Godley seem to bring out the best in each other, with Godley adding a bit of an edge and Gouldman smoothing the rougher edges away. But it's a much bleaker world they inhabit nowadays with tales of workplace ennui, rape, lost youth and bullying. Not a cheery place. But, despite the passing of time, Godley and Gouldman haven't forgotten how to write a hook, and it's to their credit that you still feel drawn to the material, regardless of the subject matter.” - Zeitgeist
Why a reunion now after so many years? "In a nutshell… unfinished business," explains Godley. "In all the years we've known each other we've only written three pure, Godley/Gouldman songs. That, and a desire to find out if the music muscle still worked with someone I enjoyed and didn't have to spend weeks getting to know." Upon listening to the duo's new work unquestionably the spark is still there, picking up where they left off in 1976 but with a newly found, contemporary edge. Says Gouldman, "Kevin and I have always stayed in touch even though we haven't actually worked together for many years, so I was delighted when he called to suggest we write some songs. When I asked 'Why?' He said, 'No reason… just to do it and see what happens.' A good enough reason for me!"
“It's been rewarding so far,” concludes Godley. “Graham gives me a lot of room to maneuver and I get to take him places he wouldn't normally go. Maybe it's the way online music works but I don't think in album terms any more. GG06 is more like a gallery holding a permanent exhibition. Each time we make a new exhibit, we hang it.”
Much to the elation of Kevin Godley and Graham Gouldman fans worldwide, new material by the dynamic duo is currently being written.

Explore The Outer Realms Of Music With Random Touch
|
20:43 24/10/2007
|
10/24/07 - Algonquin, IL - Last year's pioneering effort from American experimental ensemble Random Touch, aptly titled Alchemy, was a journey inward to that place where the music controls the artist. Now Random Touch has gone further than they've gone before with the release of A True Conductor Wears A Man - a comprehensive study in improvisational composition and arrangement. Once again, the music controls the conductor.
"We start off listening closely to each other and ourselves, and on our best pieces this is a stepping stone to a state where we can no longer distinguish what is our own and what is another's. The aggregate music becomes a unified, monolithic thing, and it becomes entirely unclear whether we are hammering upon it, surfing atop it, or are simply at one with it. For myself this last step often morphs into a state where the music itself becomes secondary to a dream-like emotional drama, replete with visuals behind my lidded eyes. The joy of this experience is second only to sex. " Christopher Brown, drummer
"Sometimes I listen to something we did, and it seems completely independent of me; I can't begin to know how we made it." James Day, keyboardist
"Unlike traditional musicians who seek to hone their skills to a point of utter control, we veer away when technique would make us too predictable. We know we need freshness and a sense of fun, and our pursuit of these inevitably leads to using instruments, genres and every day objects in ways that were never intended. When we play we don't know where we are going or how we are getting there. Discovering the answers to these questions, in real time, is pure musical joy." Christopher Brown
You can sense the spirit of Can, of Zappa, of Angelo Badalamenti, but the music of Random Touch lies outside of simple categories or comparisons. Their music appears sourced from the mythic plane where the collective consciousness of the whole and individual unconscious become one. The result is dreamy, hypnotic, and otherworldly; it is music that seems to float, free of gravity, continuously on the verge of cohesion and collapse.
"We have this amazing trust between us. It opens up all these doors." James Day
"That trust, that openness, is very inviting. It allows something bigger than us to come and play." Christopher Brown
Random Touch founders Christopher Brown and James Day have an old and synergistic relationship that began with collaborations in high school (an original rock opera) and college (commissioned multi-media piece Broken Glass among others). Brown and Day first collaborated with member Scott Hamill (guitar) in 1978 and member Matthew Ebbin (camera) in 1998. In addition to music, the visual arts have been an integral part of their work over the years. To Random Touch they are all vibration. Whether videotaping the tight, electric frequency of the color violet or recording the long and lazy thrum of a hammered steel girder, it is all raw material, ready for the alchemy of transmutation.
On October 21, 2007 their eighth work, A True Conductor Wears a Man , will be released. A journey through beauty, tension and darkness awaits the listener. Some may consider the 54 minutes CD even more wild and untamed than its predecessors. Listen as Scott Hamill, James Day and Christopher Brown converge once again to explore and flesh out the unfamiliar.
"The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves." Black Elk, Oglala Sioux
Random Touch - A True Conductor Wears A Man will be available from CD Baby, Amazon.com and the band's official website.

ROCK MATRIX SITE IS DEAD! ITS ALL OVER PEOPLE. The RM site will be replaced over the next two days with a neat and simple event website. Too many reasons as to why, but please support the new site. The main reason is that after trying to find ways of offering all things under one embrella site, the answer is it cant be done, of course there was no question as no one else was asking it, but i was and i wanted to find out what was achievable. Thank you to all of you who supported our endevours, but after building 597,000 pages it is time to turn it off.
The Event Matrix LIVES!

METAL: A HEADBANGERS JOURNEY
|
12:10 29/04/2006
|
METAL: A HEADBANGERS JOURNEY: Sam Dunn is a 30-year-old anthropologist. Hes also a lifelong metal fan. After years of studying diverse cultures, Sam turns his academic eye a little closer to home and embarks on an epic journey into the heart of heavy metal. His mission: to figure out why metal music is consistently stereotyped, dismissed and condemned, even while the tribe that loves it stubbornly holds its ground spreading the word, keeping the faith, and adopting styles and attitudes that go way beyond the music.
Sam visits heavy metal landmarks as far flung as L.A.s Sunset Strip, the dirty streets of Birmingham, and the dark forests of Norway. Along the way, the two sides of Sam Dunn curious anthropologist and rabid fan collide, as Sam explores metal's obsession with sex, religion, violence and death, meets his heroes, and discovers some things about the culture that even he cant defend. Part social document, part celebration of a misunderstood art form, this documentary is the first of its kind: a chance for metal fans to speak out and a window into a culture thats far more complex than it seems.
